Connect your store

Connect Click Context

Click Context records what shoppers actually do on your storefront — clicks, rage clicks, scroll depth, form behaviour and JavaScript errors. It is optional, and it makes the findings much more specific.

GA4 tells you that people left the product page. Click Context tells you that they tapped the size selector four times and it did not respond.

Click Context is a separate Shopify app. HI Engine reads from it when it is connected.

Install it

Install the app

Install Click Context from the Shopify App Store. It opens inside your Shopify admin under Apps.

Turn on the theme app embed

Click Context collects behaviour through a theme app embed. It is one toggle in the theme editor — no code, and no theme file changes.

The setup wizard gives you a button that opens your published theme with the Click Context Tracker embed already switched on. Review the preview and press Save.

Tell HI Engine

Send your HI Engine contact a note that Click Context is live, or open Connections and add the Click Context credential there.

Give it a week

Behavioural data needs volume before it means anything. A rage-click rate from 30 sessions is noise. Plan for about a week of normal traffic before HI Engine leans on it.

How HI Engine uses it

It cross-checks. A GA4 drop-off on the product page is a symptom. A cluster of rage clicks on one element of that page is a cause. HI Engine writes the idea only when both agree, and it says which source supports which claim.

Where the two sources disagree, HI Engine reports the disagreement rather than picking the more flattering number.

Limits worth knowing

  • Scroll depth is unreliable on themes with lazy-loaded sections. HI Engine treats it as a hint, never as evidence.
  • Bot traffic concentrates in desktop and new visitors. Findings that rest only on desktop-new segments carry lower confidence.
  • A campaign spike distorts a baseline. After a large campaign, give the data a few quiet days before you treat a new rate as normal.

If it stops recording

The most common cause is a theme change that removed the app embed. Open the theme editor, check that Click Context Tracker is still switched on in the published theme, and save.

A duplicated or newly published theme does not carry the embed setting across on its own.
