Connect Google Analytics 4
GA4 supplies sessions, device splits and funnel steps. It is what turns "this looks wrong" into "this costs about €400 a month".
Shopify tells HI Engine what you sell and what people bought. GA4 tells it how many people arrived, on what device, and where they stopped. You need both to size an opportunity.
Strongly recommended
GA4 is not required to run HI Engine, but without it the impact estimates rest on Shopify order data alone. Those estimates get much weaker.
Option A — grant viewer access
This is the quickest path and the one used during onboarding.
Open GA4 property access management
In Google Analytics, open Admin. Under the Property column, click Property access management.
Confirm you are in the right property first. Many accounts hold several.
Add the HI Engine account
Click + → Add users. Enter brancoyoy@gmail.com.
Give it the Viewer role. Viewer is read-only: it cannot change your configuration, your conversions, or your audiences.
Clear Notify new users by email if you prefer. Click Add.
Tell HI Engine which property to use
Open Connections → Google Analytics 4 in HI Engine and pick your property from the list. HI Engine then runs a test query and marks the connection active.
Option B — connect with your own Google account
Use this if your organisation does not allow adding an external Google account to the property.
- Open Connections → Google Analytics 4 in HI Engine.
- Click Connect with Google.
- Sign in with a Google account that already has at least Viewer access to the property.
- Approve the read-only Analytics scopes.
- Pick the property from the list HI Engine shows.
HI Engine stores the refresh token encrypted and refreshes the access token on its own. Your credentials never reach the browser.
Revoke access at any time from your Google account's third-party access page, or by removing the viewer under Property access management.
What HI Engine reads
- Sessions and users, split by device, channel and country.
- Landing pages and page paths.
- Funnel steps: product view, add to cart, begin checkout, purchase.
- Conversion rate and revenue, where GA4 records them.
It reads. It never writes to your property, and it never changes your GA4 configuration.
Troubleshooting
The account you connected has no access to any GA4 property, or it has access only at account level and not at property level. Add it as a Viewer on the property itself.
Also check you granted access on a GA4 property, not a legacy Universal Analytics property. Universal Analytics is not supported.
Two common causes:
- Different date ranges. HI Engine reports on complete days and excludes today.
- A second domain. If your store runs on more than one hostname, GA4 counts a visitor who crosses between them twice. Tell your HI Engine contact which hostnames are yours.
The most common cause is a revoked viewer. Check that brancoyoy@gmail.com is
still listed under Property access management. Reconnect from
Connections afterwards.
Connect Shopify
Shopify is the one required connection. It gives HI Engine your catalogue, your orders, and the theme files it needs to write a change.
Connect Click Context
Click Context records what shoppers actually do on your storefront — clicks, rage clicks, scroll depth, form behaviour and JavaScript errors. It is optional, and it makes the findings much more specific.
